On June 25, Russian Ambassador to FDRE, E.E.Terekhin, presented a letter from the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov accrediting him as Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the African Union, to M.Faki Mahamat, Chairman of the Commission of the African Union. During the conversation, the parties discussed the state and prospects for bilateral cooperation between the Russian Federation and the African Union, and exchanged views on the preparations for the Russia-Africa summit, which will be held in October this year in the city of Sochi.

On the Russian side, it was noted that Russia regards the African Union as the key regional organization of Africa, which plays a leading role in ensuring peace and security on the continent, in promoting integration and coordinated approaches. In this regard, the appointed envoy of Russia to the African Union, E.E.Terekhin, expressed a desire to further increase contacts and interaction with a pan-African organization.

In the context of the development of cooperation in the spheres of economy and development, interest in proceeding with the work on the establishment of cooperation between Russia and AUC was noted. In particular, the Plenipotentiary Representative of Russia noted the readiness of Russian economic operators to participate in the implementation of large-scale infrastructure projects on the continent.

The necessity of continuing the cooperation in confronting new challenges and threats, for instance, by involving the Russian Interior Ministry in the activities of AFRIPOL as an observer, was stressed.

The Russian side reaffirmed the view that the problems of Africa should be solved by the Africans themselves. It was suggested to develop personnel potential of the AUC, in particular, by organizing internships and advanced training courses for the staff of the AU Commission based on the Diplomatic Academy of the Russian Foreign Ministry.
